Getting Connected
My son Eric never goes anywhere without his cell phone. To him, it’s a necessity to be connected at all times, and he is just like most everyone else in today’s professional world.
It’s amazing how far technology has come in the past 10 years and how much it affects civil engineering. I can only imagine what the future will hold for the civil engineer and how technology will shape the way we do our jobs. I’m from a generation that has not always looked at technology as a necessity, but I’ve grown to understand and appreciate the advantages it offers the new generation of professionals.
Technology is really about establishing a connection, and that’s why I think this blog is such a great idea. I recognize that the Web is the way to connect. And this mindset reaches beyond younger civil engineers to all generations. The immediacy and availability of the Web is amazing, and through this blog, I hope to tap into the wealth of knowledge, technology and idea-sharing the Internet provides for everyone in our profession.
I want to use the power of technology to build a connection with ASCE members to hear what you think. Please contact me and share your suggestions and comments on how ASCE can better connect with you.
